Ryerson: IPE Matters Series - Understanding and managing conflict in interprofessional life
Please note that this IPE elective is a grad level activity only open to students in the following programs: MSW, MD, PT, OT, Pharmacy and Public Health.
Interprofessional education (IPE) assumes that collaboration across professional boundaries can improve client care. The effectiveness of this collaboration depends in some part upon how well team members can understand, manage and resolve conflict effectively. Without effective collaboration and resolution of conflicts, team functioning can be threatened.
In this workshop, participants can expect to explore different modes of behavior in situations of conflict, and understand how each mode plays a role in achieving a resolution (or not).
The objectives of the workshop are:
- Understand different modes of handling conflict
- Identify the mode that relates to you; and how you can adapt to increase your contribution to resolution
- Arrive at a place where you can choose how to act, rather than react
